Swatch Gallery
Sometimes I make swatches as spontaneous sketches to demonstrate pattern and colour ideas, such as those shown in my book of Fair Isle knitting where anything from nature to graffiti can provide the impetus for a knitted sketch. They are also a crucial step in the commercial design process, not only to realise the fabric design but also to provide the mathematical basis for working out the detailed instructions for knitters to make the design in a range of sizes.
